At first glance, this headlight looks perfectly normal. It looks like any other headlight on any car on the road. This headlight lens may not be brand new, but it’s not bad, right?
In reality, the lens IS pretty dull, and you can only see the consequences of that dullness at night. The dullness to the headlight lens causes a decrease in brightness to the headlight itself, lowering your visibility of the road.
You can really see how bad the lens is by comparing it to one that has just been polished:

The change from polished to dull is a slow process, happening over time, so much so that you don’t notice the change in your nighttime visibility. Your car’s headlight lenses become dulled a little every day, so how can you tell when it is time to get them polished? You know it’s time if your lenses have any yellow discoloration, look blurry or foggy, or if you can’t see as well as you used to at night.
